ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday summoned Director General Intelligence Bureau Aslam Gorchani to appear before the court in person in a case pertaining to use of IB funds for political purposes in Punjab.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry, heard the case. During the hearing the court was informed that a report by ex-DG IB Shoaib Suddle has confirmed that Rs440 million were withdrawn from the IB funds in 2009.
A reply was submitted in the country on behalf of DG IB Gorchani but it was rejected by the court and ordered that Gorchani should appear before the court in person on January 8. The bench said that the court can also summon ex-DG IB Tariq Lodhi if a satisfactory response was not submitted to the court.
The court later adjourned the hearing till January 8. – CNBC Pakistan
